Embrace Embroidery with Louise Gardiner

I am delighted to introduce the contemporary embroiderer Louise Gardiner. She creates intricate, embellished, one-off designs that incorporate layers of intricate, free-hand machine stitched embroidery, paint, ink and applique.

Because I Love You, 2009

Louise completed an Art Foundation at Manchester Metropolitan University, Textiles Ba(hons) at Goldsmith's College, London where her passion for embroidery began and then returned to Manchester Metropolitan University to complete an MA in Illustration.

Louise's work is naturally inspired showing inspiration from and incorporating florals, fauna, fruit, feathers and quirky birds. Designs consist of a warm, rich and varied colour palette with highlights of contrasting and complementary coloured threads to add definition and further interest. Humorous phrases and unusual titles give and entertaining slant to Louise Gardiner's work.

Come on Boys

"I was attracted to the spontaneous nature of the sewing machine needle, the quirky lines and the inevitable mistakes." Sourced Finishing Touches Magazine Louise's experimentation with her sewing machine continues and has completed a wide variety of personal commissions throughout the UK. I personally admired her work up close in the Bluecoat Display Centre, Liverpool and only then did I truly appreciate how insanely delicate and decorative her work is.
