Klimt is a famous
Austrian painter, specifically renowned for his studies of the female form. Klimt
travelled to cities including Venice and Ravenna, well known for their
beautiful mosaics, which clearly significantly inspired his work. Egyptian
influences can also be seen in his use of imagery and gold leaf.

The rich colour palette of exquisite golds combined with small blocks of bright colour intrigue me. Klimt’s work is full of rich pattern, detail and ornamentation which makes it decorative but in an abstract way. I love the hand painted and geometric elements to his work, which show imperfection and freedom. Klimt provides a great wealth of inspiration for me as an artist and designer and the beauty of his work I feel can only truly be appreciated by viewing his work up close.
