Today is a gorgeous sunny day and I am delighted to share with you the creations of mixed media collage artist Lexis Kreig. I was particularly attracted to Lexis's work by her talented way of layering, and mixing texture, colour, and delicate pattern together with sweet imagery and charming phrases.
"I layer paint, found papers and illustration to create artwork with depth and texture. I choose text that is both sweet and touching as well as inspirational. I hope that my layered, mixed media collages inspire people to live the authentic life that they imagined for themselves."
Lexis studied at Minnesota State University Moorhead for a Ba (Hons) in Graphic Design and currently lives in Denver, Colorado where she works in her own design studio with her husband. "I'm inspired daily by the Rocky mountains and nature's abundance of colors, textures and shapes." The main inspiration for Lexis's creations is gathered in snippets from her travels, charity shops, markets, auctions and the outdoors. "I am particularly fond of anything that has had a previous life, such as discarded papers, photos, books and haberdashery."
I love the depth to Lexis's work with multiple layers of storybook paper, fine paper and fabric patterns, maps, line drawings, washes of colour, machine stitched details and trimmings. Each piece is truly unique with quirky additions including scrabble pieces and stamps. Lexis's work has an aged beauty which almost gives each design it's own individual history. Well done Lexis some gorgeous work!
