I could not resist featuring the famous designs of Orla Kiely who is interestingly described by the Guardian as 'the queen of prints'. Orla studied for an MA at The Royal College of Art, London and on completion Harrod's purchased her exhibited collection. Orla says her positive influence and creative inspiration came from her Grandmother back in Ireland.
Orla Kiely's unique graphic style has become globally recognisable and effectively explores, scale, texture, rhythm and of course pattern through simple and stylised shapes and motifs. Her modern colour palette incorporates a range of bold shades including tangerine orange, olive green and chocolate brown similar to the 1950's. Orla Kiely's distinctive designs can be spotted across interior textile products, kitchenware, stationary, furniture, women's accessories and even that back of a London bus. A must buy for any surface pattern fanatic like myself!
