I love Isobelle's contemporary take on traditional folk art by creating little unique mixed media creatures. Isobelle collects and hand picks things, often vintage pieces to combine with paper mache, recycled paper and hand embroidered stitches which result in whimsical and curious animals with a distressed and rustic feel. "All my items are painstakingly handmade, from the smocked bodies to the tiny ceramic bead eyes, as I feel you can't beat the rustic naive appearance of hand made items, and the use of found materials adds to this too, there is always something really charming about them."
You can imagine each of these animals to have their own quirky personality!
"My dad made lots of toys out of various materials for me when I was little (the boat the shrew sits on was made by my dad! I only found out recently that he had actually made it for me!), so nostalgia has had a big part to play in my inspiration too, being surrounded by strange and intriguing objects all my life that my parents have made and collected (such as knitted animals, puppets and wooden toys) and that has clearly rubbed off on me! "
