Mel Smith studied at the University of Wolverhampton and since has been working as a freelance designer for the greetings and wallpaper industry.
Mel has a modern graphic approach to surface pattern and her delicate lace like designs have got to be my favourites, they are almost kaleidoscopic! I've always been a lover of vintage lace and the feminine colour palettes Mel uses really define the fine detail captured. Below are a refreshing and vibrant selection of Mel's most recent designs for you to enjoy!
Mel is a recent graduate from the groundbreaking e-course 'The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design' and as a result is focussing on her own brand. This inspirational course is co founded by the very talented surface pattern designer Rachael Taylor and entrepreneur Beth Nicholls.

"My designs start out as hand drawn sketches and doodles which I slowly refine. They are then scanned and modified in PhotoShop (which I cannot live without)."
