Arthur Rackham's Fantastical World!

I thought I would share an all time favourite illustrator of mine with you today, Arthur Rackham. Through the use of pen and ink, he magically brings the fantasy of children's literature to life. I love the dreamlike imagery and often eerie woodland scenes he captures with fantastic precision. Below are a selection of my favourite illustrations from some very famous enchanting stories.

Johanna Bashford's Magnificent Monochrome Masterpieces!

I do apologise for my absence. I have been meaning to share the fabulous work of Johanna Basford with you for ages! Her black and white monochrome materpieces amaze me! "Tumble down the rabbit hole and find yourself in my inky black and white Wonderland..." Sourced

Johanna studied Printed Textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee and shortly after set up her own creative studio to begin her illustrative freelance career.

It is clear nature is a rich source of imagery for Johanna, she takes delicate inspiration from the flora and fauna that surrounded her growing up as a child in rural Scotland. "My creativity is cultivated by a curious imagination and a delight in the fantastic." Sourced Every design is painstainkingly hand drawn in pencil and then her beautiful detailed linework is added with ink. Drawing by hand is personally very important to Johanna, she loves the natural wobblyness of lines, finger prints and smudges that add an originality to her designs.
