Marian Bantjes' Typography

Marian Bantjes is a designer, illustrator and typographer whose personal creativity shines throughout her work. Marian is an American designer who is known for the intricate and delicate illustrations she creates. There is a fluidity to her typgraphy that I absolutely love, drawing inspiration from the organic and the natural. She has drawn an interesting balance between the digital and the traditional, as you can see from the images below. Traditional hand drawn typography is embellished with digital technology, and made her arguably most famous piece, 'I Wonder', possible.

'I Wonder' is a beautiful and elegant book with a gold and silver foil on satin cloth cover. This hardback book is filled with delicate hand drawn illustrations which is a must have for anyone who loves pattern, embellishment and decoration. Personally, I see the influence of growing, almost Art Nouveau-esque lines, combined with patterns typically found on stained glass windows, but that may be due to the colour palette she has limited herself to.

Overall, Marian's is a typography you must know about if you're interested in the magic that can be created with hand drawn typography. Even if you're not a fan, it is hard not to appreciate the hard work, concentration and commitment that goes into each one of her pieces.

Til next Monday!
